2010 Event Changes - Maker Green Team Participation
IMPORTANT EVENT TYPE CHANGES APRIL 2010
Following recent events and our December 2009 Maker Green Team AGM the quorum decided that participation at 'private profit making events*' would be phased out in 2010 (subject to existing arrangements with past organisations*).
Since 2006 the Maker Green Team has sought to obtain direct funding through participation at and with private profit making event organisations through volunteer exchange for donation. This exchange was to enable Maker Green Team volunteer activities, training and supporting community events which do not receive funding to operate local events recycling on their sites.
After a review and the demonstrated experience of many private profit making ventures this exchange method can no longer continue. Some event organisations are reluctant to facilitate our needs and consequently their own events waste provision through our participation.
Waste & recycling has had a negative social perception associated for far to long and our experience has demonstrated that this perception is still maintained which goes against the aims and social objectives of 'volunteering and social responsibility' and the Maker Green Teams Constitutional statement.
We do not wish to close these doors completely and if a private event organisation approaches us we need an honest exchange of dialog reflecting our needs through our constitutional statement. You need to appreciate why we do what we do and whether you wish to support what we do.
Your organisation has to have a idea about what your waste budget is. How much do you have to undertake proper event recycling? We need honesty, we're NOT a business and we undertake operations at cost and for donation to fund the Maker Green Team. Kidding us is akin to shooting yourselves in the foot!
As of now (April) we will charge a 'Proposal fee' to cover volunteer time, communication costs with our suppliers. As we are not a business and don't receive funding this is only right and proper as events are for cost and donation only. Proposals take time (often weeks) and energy to construct because each event is unique. This proposal fee will be returned should you book the Maker Green Team at your event.
As of April 2010 the Maker Green Team will now ONLY undertake waste and recycling schemes for constituted not for profit concerns, local events organisations, local government organised events and governmental bodies who support our constitutional responsibilities.
*Please note that existing events Rame Dance & 2000 Trees Festival will not be affected this summer as we have historic links and or previous supported relationships with these events.
The Maker Green Team isn't a business but is structured as a all volunteer not for profit community events organisation which is ratified at each AGM.
Please respect our status in your contact.
*These changes affect events organisations which are structured as private enterprises or company operations - meaning all types; including Community Interest Companies, Social businesses, as we'll as sole trader formats. The Maker Green Team will work with & support community organisations which are structured not as business’, but are volunteer lead and constituted. If you have any questions about these definitions please contact our Chairperson using the contact button of this site.
